๐ข Imma kick your @$$!
Oh, pardon me, didn't see you there. I was just raging a storm at a random person I don't know. ๐ Standard behavior you might think of a child raised beside the internet. But you would be wrong. Oh yes. The depravity of the fighting game scene is layered in depts too treacherous to even speak of...
And yet we'll try. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Because these games give us something tangible that is real, and powerful. Some people say you are not a man until you've faced a man in martial combat. I don't know if that is true. But I know that you are not a gamer until you've fought someone in a fighting game.
I think that checks out. ๐
And soโ๏ธ In this edition of Through the Lens ๐, we'll be taking a look at BANDAI NAMCO's storied 3D fighter from 2015: Tekken 7, Roll it! ๐ฝ

๐ถ UP TOP ๐ถ
I will say a lot of controversial things during this piece, but one is not one of them: Tekken has the best music out of any fighting game. Period. Full Stop. Bar none. Thank you and that was my TED Talk. ๐
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL1Z_gF6yLQ&list=PL9TtG4ps4dAYmZNYGoimktlqmZazURqTE
It's so good in fact, that I miss previous entries' tracks. And we can't have you missing out on all this amazing music ๐ถ so I linked a handy dandy mix of most of the better songs in the series. That's right. In this article, you get two playlists for the price of none!
My first Tekken was Tekken 3. I would wager that's the case for most people. ๐ฏ Either in the arcade or PS1, Tekken 3 was the $#!%. And out of any fighting game, Tekken preserves the most legacy skill. What does that mean? Well, if you were good in Tekken 3, you would still be good in Tekken 7.
This is amazing, although BN (that's what I'll use to refer to Tekken's dev team) has relied a smidge too much on this legacy skill. Which we will discuss at length later.
But let's start off with the good. ๐

๐ถ PALMS: SWEATY ๐ถ
For me, like many others, Tekken 7 is the best fighting game ever made. And if you want to be a bit more careful with what you say, you'd say it's the best 3D fighting game. But we are not shy here, oh no. Tekken is the best, and I would have no slander saying otherwise. ๐ค
First things first, Tekken is a 3D fighting game. Meaning you can side-step. ๐ฎ This in combination with your regular 2D kit, makes the game a whole lot more challenging.

Hits have a $#!@ ton of properties. Some knock-back, some stun. some counter-hit, some interrupt, and trust me, I can go on. ๐ But let's not bog this article down with terms that mean very little to the casual player. Or in this case, the casual reader. Just remember, the move list is vast, and most of it is useful in some way.
This makes the moment-to-moment trading of blows really fun to play, and watch. I've seen compilations of other fighting games on the Tubes and none of them can compete with Tekken. It is the clearest fighting game out there. And with surveys conducted by several credited groups, it is the most fun to watch for casual observers as well. ๐

๐ถ KNEES: WEAK ๐ถ
The pacing of Tekken matches can be measured and calculated, or it can be frantic and unpredictable. Online, it's usually button-mashy. But that's the way of things in most fighting games. ๐
Tekken doesn't have infinite combos like other fighting games, it also doesn't have too many throws or gimmicks. It is pretty fluid in how it mixes and matches between these different states. For instance: while there are optimal combos, you are free to make your own. This in itself gives the game a lot of freedom. ๐

If you have legacy skills this means that you are free to do whatever you want. And if you are at all familiar with how fighting games work, you will know that Tekken is very liberating in that way.
But what if you don't have this legendary legacy skill? Well, you're in for a hell of a ride kiddo. ๐ Strap in!

๐ถ ARMS: HEAVY ๐ถ
We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to talk about the story.
Now, I said not important, because really, what fighting game story is important? Answer is none! But Tekken does as good a job as you'd hope for, with characters progressing through a long and storied arch. Spanning not only 10+ games, but comics and anime as well. ๐ Pretty impressive for a fighting game.

In previous titles, you would play through the**'Iron Fist Tournament'** with each character. Going through and beating it to see said character's ending. โฐ๏ธ With there being a canon ending to how it all went down.*
However here, while you still have these episodes, there is no character endings associated with it! And this takes the fun out of playing each character to completion. Instead, there is a storyline that you go through, where you play a plethora of characters. And it's all cinematic and whatnot, blah blah I want my silly endings damn it! ๐ซ
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

๐ถ SWEATER: VOMIT ๐ถ
The biggest problem with Tekken is that it doesn't teach you the game. ๐ And I pray they address this in Tekken 8. ๐ If anything, the campaign makes it harder to play the game with all the combat assists going on. And the move list that you get in practice mode is not complete. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
So the only way to learn the game is through YouTube. And that is something you never want for your game. ๐

๐ถ LEGACY: SPAGETTHI ๐ถ
Tekken is up there with Street Fighter for the fighting game throne. While I think most people will go SF (because they are filthy he4avens) I wouldn't say Tekken would be far off. And for me the choice is easy.
Regardless if you think it's the best or not, it is in a league of its own. I know people that watch Tekken highlights by themselves, without ever having played the game. And that right there is special.
This is where I recommend the game I've spent the last 1k+ words raving about, but in this case I dunno. ๐ PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK! Like Dota. When games are really technical, you have to know what you are getting into. And Tekken is not for the faint of heart. It requires a time commitment I'm not sure most people are willing to give.
However, let's bring it all back, how can you prove you are a real gamer if you can't beat a single person in Tekken? ๐ค

Thank you for reading, you rock! (and maybe roll) ๐๐๐
Shout-out to the ๐PIZZA๐ gang, ๐ค gang. ๐ค
There is a real possibility I do some Tekken session blogs here. But am still trying to figure out the format. So, we'll see! No promises!
