🐠 Shark Tale (Activision's GTA) 📽 Through the Lens

Ok, let me explain. 🤣 And before you ask: No! I was enither high nor drunk while writing this piece. Give me some credit, I am a professional writer! 🤣😂🤣

This game deserves a spotlight! I don't care what no one, nor their grandma, says! 😤 For once, there's a movie tie-in licensed game that goes above and beyond its calling, and creates something special. (granted, special might be a bit much, but it sure felt like it to my 10 y/o self). At any rate, it def goes against the mould on these types of titles. // mould emoji

So don't get it twisted. This a real column people! (sort of) this game is great! (kinda), and I guarantee you will enjoy this article (one-hundo). 💯

Ahem. I never thought I would write this 😁. But, in this edition of Through the Lens 🎞, we will be taking a look at Activision's GTA clone (no, but really) from 2004: Shark Tale, Roll it! 📽

So off-top why did I use a publisher's name instead of the developer? Have I fallen in to corporatism?? No, (maybe a little) it's just license games are weird like that. You have 3 developers associated with this game, each developing a different version. Activision is the publisher among them all, so it seemed fitting, I unno sue me. 😋

The OST ain't that bad. You still got Missy Elliott's 'The Car Wash' in there.

Around the time of this game's release there were a slew of licensed titles being released. And since my Mums had a no guns! rule in the games I played (something I totally respected btw, yup yup), I basically played all of them. 😆 // Still love the Shrek 2 video game, but that one wasn't good enough to warrant its own Through the Lens. "And this one is?" Shush it you, we're getting there...

Huess we'll start with my obvious ploy in the title reveal paragraph. Activision's GTA? Jovu, are you click baiting us? 😡 No, if I was I would've put that in the title, hah, haha. No! Give me a chance to explain!

Fishies! Fishies everywhere! 🙌

Ya'll think I'm trippin', but this here underwater GTA, yo! I'll prove it even, since I'm such a nice douche (dude, I meant dude).

You play as Oscar, a fish 🐠 in search of love (mostly money 🤑). You control him in an underwater open-world city, in which you complete all types of missions, tasks and errands. SOUND FAMILIAR?

These missions see you entering linear levels where you have simple, yet brilliant, combat sections. Or, a variety of other activities such as composing music or racing. 🏎 RING ANY BELLS? HMMM?

These activities grant you money, which you can then use to buy apartments and furnish them. 😯 No, but seriously. DOESN'T THIS SOUND FAMILIARRRR??

I'm telling you guys, I made this connection when I was a kid! It has to hold up!

Funny thing is it ain't far from the truth either. 😂

Often times, the feeling a game produces is just important as its gameplay. It was so cool to swim around your fish city with your fish meeting your fish friends. And I played San Andreas around the same time, and trust me: they're basically identical❗️

Who doesn't love fish? 🐡 I'm actually pretty impartial to them as both beings and food, but for the sake of argument let's all agree: no one!

If you are a part of this overwhelming majority, then you'll def love this game's cast of characters. Since they are already fleshed out in the movie (- wait they made a movie about this masterpiece? - they did!) their inclusion into an open-wold (if a fish open-world doesn't blow your mind I dunno what to tell you).

• Apart from your exploration/combat missions, you can also: make music 🎵 and/or race 🎏. You ever see dog races? Yeah. it's like that, bur with fishhh.

So, as straightforward as the gameplay is, it never tries to do too much, nor too little. The mark of a great game is being comfortable in your own skin. And by some miracle this random licensed game managed to do it. 🤷‍♀ The small variety of missions is just enough to keep you intrigued and invested. The game's short length also helps with that. 😁

I still remember getting to the big city portion of the game. Where you have this fancy @$$ apartment, and I was finally able to spend all that moolah I was saving on furnishing my fish appartment. Ughhh. I'm actually gonna go download this game right now. BRB.

Oh, dude, it's HUGE! Fish GTA you kidding me? 🐠

And this ain't no bit, you mofos keep thinking I'm joking here but this game really is a GTA but you play as fish and you don't steal cars. Honestly if the fish stole cars, then.... not sure if this game would've been topped til this day.

Thus, it will always be remembered with the same reverence and respect we give GTA III or San Andreas. Even more so if you live in a coastal area.

In all seriousness, not sure if anyone has even played this game on HIVE. 😂 I never see it on the "greatest of all time lists" (part of the reason why those lists suck tbh) so people must be ignorant of it.

And I wasn't joking. I actually downloaded this game yesterday while writing this article. I can't wait to reunite with my fish friends in my fish town to do some fish thing.

I'm here for now tho, don't threat! 😙 This was so fun to write. 😁 I genuinly love this game, but if I took it seriously I would end up with a much more boring article, and I doubt many people would take it seriously. My reputation is tarnished as is!
