๐ข YOU HAVE TO FIND AND RESCUE THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER! ๐ข
On it Chief! ๐
The Resident Evil series continues on my page as it did in real life - better than ever. Now, while that analogy might not make the most sense in the world, it is what it is. What I meant to say is, that this latest remake from Capcom might be the best Resident Evil game ever made.
This is all dependent on what you enjoy doing in your Resident Evil game. And I can tell you right now it's not my personal favorite. But I find it hard to argue with people that claim it's theirs. Since this one was made really well.
Thereforeโ๏ธ In this edition of Through the Lens ๐, we'll be taking a look at Capcom's revival of a action-horror masterpiece from 2023: Resident Evil 4, โ๏ธ
(this is the first time I cover a game released in the same year as the article)
Roll it! ๐ฝ

๐ท UP TOP ๐ถ
I feel like these sections of the articles have become increasingly repetitive - since there isn't much I could add to them. A Resident Evil soundtrack is a Resident Evil soundtrack. You won't listen to it while working, but you might give it a try while reading this piece to get the vibe of the product.
How's that? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I will however do something I haven't done before and that's link the original soundtrack here is well. Bear in mind this version is from 2005, so I still recommend you listen to the one above while reading. But if you fancy comparisons then I think it's pretty cool to leave it here.
I played this sucker the moment it came out you kidding me? While my first ever Resident Evil was the revitalization with 7, ever since then I have fallen in love with the franchise. And with Capcom's promise that this remake would be more akin to the RE2 remake rather than the RE3 one, my interest peaked.

๐ท CLUNKY NO MORE ๐ถ
You have to understand that the original Resident Evil 4 was a trendsetter. A legendary game that defined a generation of third-person action games. There would be no Gears of War without Resident Evil 4. And that's just the first game that popped into my head where the devs referenced RE4 as an influence. There are countless others.
However, RE4 as great as it is, was still a product of the times. And when you're the first at something it's expected that you don't have all your sheep in order. Or was it marbles? Whichever! There were many growing pains in the original that the remake addressed. ๐ฏ

For one thing Leon moves and acts like a turret. As one of the pioneers of the third-person shooter genre we did not yet know how to properly manage the whole moving while aiming thing. Moreover, Leon controlled like an absolutely uncontrollable pile of limbs. It was so awkward getting around.
Now all of that has been updated to meet modern standards. We have fluid motion, expected from any modern title. As well as the tried and true over-the-shoulder shooting present in countless games. The shooting has been refined, and coming along with all these improvements, are more and more enemies. They swarm you from every angle, expecting you to either make out or die.

๐ท STREAMLINED ๐ถ
So the graphics are top-notch as with any Resident Evil engine game. That's what their new engine is called if you didn't know. Not only does it look good, but it sounds good. It sounds great, actually. The sound design in this game leaves other contemporaries in the dust.
Speaking of the topic at hand, however, the game is a lot less bloated than the original. The bloated third act is no more! Making the pacing much, much better. In addition, you have a boat! From a section of gameplay ripped straight out of the new God of War games, what was once just a boss battle arena is now a fully explorable area where you can dock your boat, walk around, and find items and other goodies.

The escorting part of the game has been made much less of a hassle by the fact that the president's daughter can no longer die. Yes! She is immortal! As all escorts should be. In the original, you had to use your herbs on her. Which, turned out to be annoying and just bogged down the gameplay. ๐ฏ
/I also love how you can traverse the environment and use it to your advantage. You can set something on fire and let it kill the other enemies. Or just hide behind cover, kiting your enemies, to jump on them when they least expect it. // not that they would expect anything, they're zombies after all, or a type of zombie at least

๐ท LEGACY ๐ถ
This game is just polished to perfection. The monster design and art direction combined with the sound design and detailed mechanics, make this game a real treat. Not just for Resident Evil fans, but gaming lovers in general.
If you haven't play this game. It's difficult and challenging but well worth it. The story, while cooky is still charming in the most Resident Evil way possible. And the modernized mechanics make the remake one of the best action-horror games ever made. Easy.
So, while this game is only a few months old, I think it will stand the test of time as a title worth playing and then some. Is it the best remake of the bunch? I would say so. It's yet another check to Capcom's recent successes. And stands as an example of what developers can do when given the appropriate time and resources.

Shout-out to the ๐PIZZA๐ gang, ๐ค gang. ๐ค
Are we finished with Resident Evil then? Well, I'm still humming and hawing whether to do Resident Evil 3. That would be more of a sarcastic cynical post. And I hate doing those. Plus not sure how many more original things I could say that I haven't in the RE2 and RE4 pieces. But, you never know. We'll see.
