Tom watched as Martin screamed on the court's steps. He found himself smiling, feeling... nothing.
"Try not to look so satisfied, will you?" It was Marta, what did she want? As if reading his mind she pointed. "Cameras all over. Don't make yourself so obvious, eh?"
Why did she even care? Tom said as much and Marta shrugged. "I like you, ruthless scumbag that you are."
"Why?"
"You're a winner. And you're willing to do anything for your goal. Even if it means breaking the rules."
Tom smiled. "Following the rules is boring, anyway."
Tom signaled for Marta to follow.
This is my first ever Drabble! Didn't even know the term existed. 😅 I love microfiction though, so this type of prompt is right up my alley. Kudos to @samsmith1971 for always keeping this contest fresh and fun. 🍻
I had this elaborate story idea about a sociopath getting everything he wanted. Then I realized I had only 100 words to write it. 😂 Decided to stick with it since the story stuck with me. Not sure how much of that I conveyed in the writing but I guess that's part of the challenge with a format like this.
