Greeting one and all...

🥁🥁🥁

...to the Tekken 8 preview series! - Jun Kazama. If Kazuya is the daddy of Tekken, then Jun has to be its mommy. Even if it has been decades since we've last had her in a mainline Tekken game. Yes, Tag Two doesn't count, sorry. So this is a pretty exciting addition to the roster, one I was dreading as I thought it would mean the removal of my main - Asuka. But it didn't, so everyone's happy! Nearly. We'll talk about that soon.

Character Name: Jun Kazama First Appearance: Tekken 2 Nationality: Japanese Fighting Style: Kazama Style

Frankly, for the longest time, I didn't even know this character existed. I never played Tekken 2 or the two Tag Two games. So the first time I learned of Jun's existence was a vague mention that she's Jin's mother, and I presumed Asuka. Although it's confirmed that is not the case anymore? Super confused on that front. But she plays a lot like Asuka, so in that sense, I like her lots! 😁

And so! 🕺 Let's talk about her!

I keep saying that this is the last time I'm gonna link two trailers but it keeps happening. 😅 Well, this time for real. Jun is a heavy influence in the Tekken 8 story, and so she was featured in the game's Teaser Trailer that focussed on the story. 🎥

And of course, there was her official introduction in her very own character reveal trailer. Not only did we get to see Jun in all her motherly/fighting flory, but we also got to see her stage. And that stage is just gorgeous. Not only does it look divine, but it sounds splendid to boot. Jun gives off that motherly energy - you pick up that broom or Imma smack the $#!@ out of you. Which is great. 😁 // she doesn't? it's just me imagining? I'm pretty sure she does...

Her design sticks to the same scheme, white and black. She def looks like she's here to heal the Tekken universe. And knowing where the plot has ended up, we needed her back for that reason alone.

🔷 APPEARANCE 🔶

The dove really is a good symbol for her character. It symbolizes the pure nature of her heart. But once she gets down to business you see the scary mama come out. As is, her outfit is elegant but practical. Some might call her design boring, but I think it's relatively plain nature suits the character well. 👌

Her Rage Art is very funny to me. All the others are these great big set pieces where characters do elaborate moves to finish you in the most blockbuster way possible. Jun on the other hand takes you to heaven (?) and heals you? 😀 And by getting rid of the evil in your body she damages you? I guess? I dunno but it's a nice change of pace and cool to look at to boot.

🔷 NEW TECH 🔶

While everyone was excited to see Jun when she first arrived. When they actually got to play with her and against her in the CNT (Closed Network Test) which acted like a closed beta essentially - they were livid. You see, with the new rage mechanics introduced, Jun has become especially annoying. Becoming the scourge in the CNT. Now, there is another CNT scheduled for October, and we'll see if the balance is different then. 🙏

A unique mechanic she has is that she has healing beams. This is a pretty nifty mechanic that I don't believe has been present in Tekken before. But having certain attacks that heal you sounds like a pretty good idea to me. It was just a bit overturned in the beta is all. Not just those attacks, she was generally overturned to the point where people started hating Jun.

And this is not even because her kit is different, this is still the same character. She still shares the moves that she shares with Asuka, and her weak side is still to the left. So it's the same character, but we can't properly gauge her strength right now. Regardless, the introduction of healing is a welcomed addition in my opinion.

And what I love most is that they have separated Asuka and Jun's fighting styles. I was afraid there would be a larger overlap. But it seems like they've made Asuka the aggressive/attacking Kazama, while Jun is more defensive with her long-ranged attacks (yes, she has those). It's weird to call Asuka an aggressive character since she's always been known as the keep-back/defensive queen. But it's a new game people! new habits need to be formed!

Thank you for reading, you rock! (and maybe roll) 👏👏👏

Shout-out to the 🍕PIZZA🍕 gang, 🤙 gang. 🤙

Frankly, I'm not sure which character we're going to talk about next. I really want to talk about Azucena, the fresh face in Tekken. Her movement and personality just seem cool to me. So we'll see. I cannot wait for the closed network text coming this October. I'll probably give you guys and gals my thoughts on the game after that as well. As for the next character preview, I'll think about it. 😅
