Greetings one and all...

🥁🥁🥁

...to the Tekken 8 preview series! - Bryan Fury. Another Tekken 3 classic. Remember when no one knew Bryan was a cyborg? Ah, good times. Unique and dangerous, Bryan is for many people their favorite character - or main, you might say. He has remained a staple in the Tekken games ever since his introduction.

Character Name: Bryan Fury First Appearance: Tekken 3 Nationality: American Fighting Style: Kickboxing

In this newest installment, Bryan brings back his entire bag of tricks, and then some. He is without a doubt the same Bryan. And while I do not play the character myself, a lot of Bryan mains seem to be enjoying their time with him. And honestly, that's what matters. If the people who have spent thousands of hours with the character approve of his new design, there's not much more to say. We're gonna try anyway. 😁

And so! 🕺 Let's talk about him!

🔷 GAMEPLAY TRAILER 🔶

Bryan had a little unfortunate leak happen with his trailer. Namko Europe (who have unwittingly leaked several things in this cycle) leaked the trailer on Instagram a day early. The trailer was low quality but still the trailer, so a lot of people got to watch it. Then, when the actual trailer came out it felt lackluster, and didn't get the shine it deserved IMO. I reckon most of you have been left unspoiled, so feel free to enjoy the trailer in all its 'first-time' glory. 🎥

As you can see, Bryan is still the happy-go-lucky psychopath he has always been. We love that for him. Namco definitely nailed down the energy required for him to feel authentic. His mannerisms, his taunts, his voice lines. Everything is on point. Let's discuss his appearance more in detail. Psst, follow me.

🔷 APPEARANCE 🔶

He looks scary. What else do you need? Badass? Alright, we have that too. His costume is a combination of Tekken 3 and 7 I'd say. With his facial features accentuating his chaotic nature to the T. There's no mistaking it, from the first time you see this guy - he is unhinged and loves it. Why does he carry around bullets like elbow protectors and belts? Who knows. It looks cool though. 😎

His moves have the power required for a cyborg. Every hit feels like a death blow and every grunt is like a declaration of your inevitable demise. When you are losing to Bryan you feel helpless, like nothing you do matters against this mass-murdering cyborg killer. I love it. This goes hand in hand with his effects, which I think have been aptly done and compliment his arsenal of abilities well.

So he looks great, he sounds great. All that's left is for his Rage Art to be great. And it is. 👏 I would say it's one of the better ones. That goes for any Rage Art that is not just string into finishing move. Also, it emphasizes that Bryan is a robot or Cyborg, sorry, I'm not a Cyborgist, I promise. This is important because I think a lot of people still do not know that he is not human.

A quick mention of his intros and outros, which are spot on Bryan. I'm glad he is no longer carrying a random scrap of metal to throw at the camera. That was stupid in my opinion. Now, he has a Gatling gun that he throws at the camera. Much more apt.

🔷 NEW TECH 🔶

Bryan is really strong in this updated version. I was under the impression that his taunt has gotten easier, when in fact it has gotten weaker. As each subsequent hit of the taunt does less damage. This was done in order to compensate for the rage drives. At first, I was like why would they do this, then I realized if his taunt damage remained the same as in 7 he would be the strongest character in the game bar none.

He has a lot of very strong homing moves. Sidestepping was buffed in 8, so the fact that Bryan is so strong in dealing with that change makes me feel like he's busted. 😀 Again, this is all dependent on the first closed network test they did. So we will know more with the newest one coming this October.

Another change to his kit is the addition of an Install. Similar to Claudio, and now Asuka. You get this after performing snake eyes, and it will empower your next attack. You also get it from Rage Drives. So that's neat.

He has some nerfs on key moves and some buffs. But overall he still feels like Bryan. One thing of note is his Magic 4 no longer is a counter hit. So that 11-frame counter hit launcher is gone. But regardless, Bryan is super duper strong. And I'm curious what approach Namco will take with his balancing. It seems like they've already made sweeping balancing changes in these early stages. // that rhymed, I know

Thank you for reading my post, you rock! (and maybe roll) 👏👏👏

Another character is done. I'm so glad there are a lot of Tekken fans in the Hive community. I never thought I would still be doing these previews honestly. But I'm glad I am! Next will probably be Paul. The hair! How can we not talk about the hair? We must! I hope you join me for the Hairaning. That's what we're calling it. No 🧢.
