...to the Tekken 8 preview series! At least, I hope it's a series. 😁 We'll see how it goes. I hope enough of you enjoy it so I can cover all the characters. Regardless, we're gonna do a couple either way. So might as well start with my favorite character and so-called main - Asuka Kazama.

Asuka has been my main ever since her first introduction in Tekken 5. Not sure what drew me to her. Partly her ease of use, partly her character (I love angry girls that beat up everybody) and partly because she's Jin's cousin but doesn't have electrics. I dunno, she was just cool man! And I was afraid she wouldn't show up in 8 because of Jun (her mother's) return.
Well, she did! 🕺 Let's talk about her!

What I love most about this trailer is that her personality shines better than ever before. I love that they went back to her roots and made her an enforcer again. I didn't like how she has been more or less a joke in the past couple of games.
In general, I adore what they did with all the character designs and personas. They said that their main focus was the characters and it shows. Gameplay aside, the look and feel of everyone is top-notch! Kudos. 👏

🔷 APPEARANCE 🔶
Honestly, for me and many other Asuka enjoyers, nothing will top her original Tekken 5 outfits. They're so iconic that they have been in every Tekken game since. And her latest iteration, her Tekken 7 get-up, was by far the worst one yet. So I'm happy to report that this time around we see a slight return to form.
I say slight because her outfit, while cute, is nothing mind-blowing. And, man, I just got beef that she's still in high school. I mean it's been over 15 years and you couldn't age her up a little bit more? I get keeping with the character but cmon... 😩
I also love how she talks. Most of her barks (that's what the shouts are called that the characters make when you attack, or when you get hit) are rage infused. It just fits her demeanor super well.
The rage arts in Tekken 8 are all bonkers in my opinion. And Asuka I'd say is serviceable if not in the upper half of rage-arts. It fits her character super well, which again is a theme here. I love that it emphasizes this tiny character in her tiny frame throwing out hella strong punches. Reminds me a lot of Sakura from Naruto. // I watched Naruto 10 years ago, don't judge. Or do, whatever

🔷 NEW TECH 🔶
Asuka was always a very simple character. At least in terms of inputs. I mean, she has had a f2 launcher, with amazing range, since her inception. Can't get much simpler than that.
But in this newest installment of the franchise she is finally getting some new tools! Still a simple character, but with more options! Personally, I am thrilled with what they did with her. 😁
After certain attacks, she now has a power-up stance. Akin to Claudio. This gives her extra attacks which she can use when not in heat. It's a lot like Claudio if not a carbon copy. And there's nothing wrong with that since it fits her really well.
Her heat is nuts. But not sure how much we can judge since it's still very early days. But most of her attacks are plus on hit and inflict massive chip damage. I'm pretty sure that a lot of this stuff will get balanced eventually. But right now she is super cheap. 😁
