Greetings Hive book community❕
I'm cutting it kinda close here - but I think I'm in time for the contest. 😅
I'm a returning member of HIVE (was active 4 years back when it was still Steemit), so I have had little time to interact with my fellow book lovers. This seemed like a perfect introductory post, plus it's a contest to boot, so I figured why not. 😁

My favorite reading place? It's my only reading place: my PC. You see, I am diagnosed clinically blind (99% blind in my right eye, 97% in my left). I wear special magnifying glasses that allow me to use my PC.
The good thing is I have a rampant imagination, but I read really slow because of my condition. So, when I found out about audiobooks, it was a God-send. I read the books as eBooks while listening to them at the same time.
Because I'm an IT engineer, my favorite time to read would be anytime I can. 😅 Whenever I have some free time, I go for it.

Above all else, it would be a clear sign of progression. Regardless of if its character, plot, or theme/tone driven. I love the feeling of when I reach the ending of a book and I say "look how far we've come". An entire journey! And I was a part of it. That's so cool. 😄
A close second would be a unique setting. Or a unique premise. Really anything that makes the writing stand on its own. I've been reading for many years, and anytime I get surprised by a book, my heart beats a smidge faster. 💯
I'll also add that I like things to be grand. The events are high-stakes with plenty of pressure situations. I like it when characters are put into no-win scenarios.
Suffice to say, I like it when lives are on the line. ⚔️

This one's easy:
- I can't read outside because the sun messes up my glasses;
- I can't read on the bus (unless I'm just listening to a book on my phone) without most people gawking at me for having the book/my phone inches away from my face;
- I do prefer when I read at night though, I've noticed that much. No idea why. I think it's because I get to re-live the scenes in my head when I got to bed. 😆

📚 Do you focus on character development, thoughtful messages, or the level of plot intrigue? 📚
As I aforementioned, development is key for me. However, if an author flexes his philosophical muscles at me (ex: Dune), it will always impress me. Because, as a fellow aspiring writer, I know how hard it is to even think of those messages - let alone present them in a way that is entertaining to read. Let alone presenting them constantly. I cannot fathom doing that.
Not in the next 30 years, at least. 😅
Plot intrigue is dope, of course. However, I've found out that I can live with a sub-par plot if it's carried by intriguing characters and a captivating setting.

The contest is already over but I still invite @kristyglas and @dibblers.dabs to read through the entries. Or just take part the next time there is a community contest. 😃
This was super fun, and I'm glad that there are community contests like this one still happening on the HIVE blockchain. 👊 🍻

Thanks for reading! 😊
This was my introduction to the Hive book community. However, it was also a contest entry (hopefully) for @hive-180164's Community Contest #3 All About Readers.
