"Stop fussing, Nina!"

"I don't wanna go! Mommy!"

Debra barely got the girl inside her seat, let alone put on a seat belt. She will be the death of me. Debra knew her daughter, and if it wasn't her mommy, it was some stranger getting the axe to the head. As it were.

For now it was just her and the kid, on the highway with the scorching sun and a flat tire. Hollywood level script writing right there.

"Mommy! I'm hot!"

"I swear to Jesus Christ, girl! Shush it! You think I'm not hot?" Debra popped the trunk and got out the spare. "Stay put while mommy works. We'll be back on the road in a jiffy."

Nina curled her lip but otherwise remained quiet. She soon disappeared behind the backseat to play with her toys. Finally. Let's fix this - She forgot the jack... She forgot the jack! Of course! She took out the jack to make space for the package. That hellish child had stolen her wits completely.

After a few minutes on deliberation, her prayers were answered. A red mustang pulled up on the side of the road beside them. "Ma'am? You need help?"

"Would you be so kind?" Debra gave him her best smile. "I got a flat and no way to change it."

"Oh, ma'am. We love helping those in need. Don't we Tom?"

Tom came out of the driver's seat a whole seven feet tall. Bold. With a leather jacket and a goatee. Debra liked him right away. The driver was less impressive but still a muscular fellow with a severe scar on his forehead.

"This here a nice car for a lady..." Tom said. "Or...?"

"I'm not alone. My daughter's inside."

"Aha," Tom nodded. "Well, best do as we say. You don't one your precious one getting hurt."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard him, bitch." The slap came fast and hard. Debra felt her cheek sting. She was mildly annoyed. "You best call someone to pick you up, cause we towing this bad boy away. You understand?"

"Oh, I understand plenty," Debra said, rubbing her cheek. "My daughter, however, will have a harder time with it. She's a real devil when she's angsty. Especially when we travel."

Tom chuckled. "Don't see how that's our problem..."

Tom dropped to the ground, a bullet hole in the side of his temple. His companion, Debra never got the man's name. Rude. ducked for cover behind his car.

Debra moved to stand in front of him. "Would you be so kind?" She made a pleading gesture with her hand. "The keys?"

"Wh-wha-y-you-w-want my k-keys?"

"Yes, you bumbling dimwit of a coward. Give m the keys to your car, or my daughter will blow your brains out." Nine shot near his feet, making the coward jump. "We understand each other.

He handed her his keys, his wallet, his sidearm. Nina came out of the car, expression as pleasant as a kindergartener. She toyed with the man for a couple of minutes while Debra got the package, but soon she got tired of him. Nina entered the mustang with an appreciative whistle.

"Nina, dear. Up front!"

"But you said I couldn't sit up front."

"Yeah, well. She might be pretty, but she ain't gifted. Mommy will have to place the bag in the back seat. Come on now, move."

"Yes, mommy."

Debra inhaled the warm desert air, feeling much better. She saw Tom's body, flies had begun to adorn him. An axe to the head, no. But a bullet? That'll get the job done...

They hit the road and continued their trip.
