"That all then?"

"Y-Yeah. Two old-fashioned and a glass of water."

The cute, voluptuous barmaid nodded and was off.

"I told you Ike. This here? This! This the best inn in this forsaken town - The Four Corners."

"Not sure about all that, Karl. But the girls?" Ike leered at everyone and no one in particular. "Yeah..."

"Get a hold of yourself. The barmaid knows me, see, and I can't have you -"

"Old Gal Rhua offers the Four Corners special - just for our new guest."

The cute barmaid hard returned with an extra drink in a lidded cup.

"You've had this then?" Ike asked. "This drink?"

It was a rhetorical question as Ike drank his fill before Karl's response.

Ike would never know Karl's response. Ike would never know much of anything anymore. Not that he did. But now, the only thing he knew was how to wash dishes, scrub floors and counters, and make the occasional broth. The Four Corners was the best inn in this forsaken village, after all. And there was always plenty of work.

For everyone.
